Busy and busy “being not busy”

Hello friends.  First and foremost- I’m sorry.  I haven’t posted in months and it’s ridiculous. I have been so busy and busy “being not busy lately” that I haven’t had time to post something.

Busy being “not busy”? What does that mean? Well, it means that there were a few moments that I wasn’t busy- so I sat.  I sat and watched tv.  I sat and listened to a book.  I sat and played on Facebook.  I sat and stared at the wall.  Those moments are very rare, so I like to enjoy them.  Sure- I had plenty of things that I could’ve been doing- but sometimes you just have to be “not busy”.  I do believe it helps you maintain your sanity.

What does my busy mean?  I volunteer my time probably too much (per my hubs)- but that also keeps me sane!

I am a member of that Stanardsville Independence Day Committee.  Putting on a fireworks show and 4th of July celebration is a lot of work y’all.  I have to hand it to people that do this stuff for a living.  My committee works really hard because we rely 100% on donations by the community and businesses.  If you want to donate, hollaaaaa.  🙂

I’m also a member of the Junior League of Charlottesville (since 2010).  Talk about volunteering! We are pretty much behind the scenes, but we help other charities, nonprofits, and organizations throughout the year AS WELL as plan our own fundraising events.  This past year, I was the Marketing VP and a member of the board of directors.  There were times where it took LOTS of my time and there were times where there were nice lulls.  This year, I have moved on to become a sustainer.  Things will be “laxer”- but I have a feeling that I’m still going to be involved.  🙂

I also run a construction company with my mama.  We aren’t talking small home remodels.  We are talking apartment complexes, nursing/assisted living homes, hospitals, schools, etc.  It’s just my mom and me.  She does the onsite/employee work and I do the paperwork/contracts/licensing stuff.  It can be busy but I will say my mom has the tougher job.

On top of that, I manage 15 properties that are owned by my family.  They are located in Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, Farmville, Blacksburg, VA and Greensboro, NC.   These are mostly student properties.  There are usually no less than 5 people per house.  One property is a fraternity and another is a sorority.  This probably keeps me the busiest as they are older homes and can have their moments.  There is no 9-5.  😉

Lastly, I’m a mommy, a wife, and human.

I help the hubs keep the house in check (well try to).  My husband is an amazingly hard working man and puts in some long hours at work as well as in his community (Planning Commissioner and a member of the Economic Development Authority) so sometimes I only see him 2 or 3 hours a day!

Since I’m able to be home, I keep our rambunctious 2.5-year-old daughter, Julia.  That in itself is a full-time job, ha!  As per my blog, you can and will see that I love cooking our family dinners, I hate doing laundry but do it anyway (shit that pile is getting big), I really LOVE picking up Julia’s toys 500 times a day (not), I don’t mind grocery shopping (but when will they deliver to my door), and I’ve just started to mow the grass (I actually like it, um and yes it’s a riding mower).

My “cutting the grass” get up.

We’ve been traveling a lot these past few months and it feels like every weekend we’ve had something to do- or we just want to snuggle on the couch and watch TV.  Don’t get me wrong, we love socializing (well, I do, LOL) and I do have my friend time.  While that stuff isn’t the “UGH” stuff.  It does take up time.

So there you have it.  Life can be crazy.  Sometimes you feel like you can’t breathe, but make sure you do because that’s important ;).  I look at my life and am so very thankful for it.  Busy or not- it’s awesome.  Thanks for reading!  Recipes coming either today or tomorrow, depending on my busy ;).
